Finally! Nearly March

 Can we just say it's been a busy month and then some.

Let's take a look at all we have been up to!


Shortly after our return to school, we celebrated 80 days of school!









Our geometry studies allowed us to explore shapes and make some great art!



























Lunar New Year was the First day of February. Welcome to the Year of the Tiger! We celebrated with a Parade of the Animals. Later we enjoyed some Lucky Long Noodles. Slurp, don't bite! Mrs. Gonzales had a cool gong for us to bang as we entered music near the end of the day.


 






 

























In Science, we did a seed study. We pinned them up on our curtains so we could watch our  green beans sprout ! Since the weather was not great for transplanting, we know that many of our plants probably wouldn't make it home. But fear not...our pumpkin plant is coming later in the spring!





Speaking of pumpkins...here is our ongoing experiment in decomposition...our October pumpkin! Some cool molds are taking over, but she still has good shape in early February.

At last...it's the 100th Day of School! Thank you for your participation with such fun shirts! We had a scavenger hunt for 100 Hershey Kisses. Each Kiss had a number on the bottom, and the children placed their find on our 100 chart. We found almost every one that day! The rest were found later in the week. We also made our 100 bead necklace. Children put one bead in each spot of 10- Ten frames. Then they strung their beads. We threw in some glow in the dark beads for good measure.





















Valentine's Day was great fun. The day before, the children created a take home bag. Valentines' Day morning, we made valentines for our families. In the afternoon we shared our valentines with classmates.

Spring Break

 We are heading into the last part of our year. The children have mostly mastered their letter sounds. We use all sorts of different methods to decode new words and learn to 'spell" familiar words. In our Building Words activities, the children are given a set of letters. In one session they are asked to look at their letters and build a word or a part of a word. (Look at your letters and build  hat .)  In the next session, the children are given a set of letters and are asked to put certain letters in place and then decode the word ( h-a-t). The children enjoy using a car to help speed the sounds and click into the word. Children later use their independent reading center time to build on these skills.           We celebrated Presidents' Day by exploring coins. That's All Folks!

 It has been an amazing year. I am still amazed that we got through the year without ever having to go remote. Our last weeks were packed with learning and fun activities. Here is our last photo blog for the year: BUNNY STORIES We practiced our narrative writing with first, next, and last cues. Then we made a poster. EARTH DAY We had our traditional Cheetah Walk on our nature trail on Earth Day morning. In the afternoon, Recycle Ricky, from LeMay, came to our school to teach us about recycling and show us his cool truck. Math Games for Teen Numbers When games are played, the mind relaxes and learning happens! ABC Countdown- E Day- Experiment! We made rainbows using markers, paper towels, and water.
